Children Learning Reading is a simple, step-by-step program that only takes a few minutes a day. And by learning reading at an early age, your child will be receiving the foundation they need for lifelong learning.
In addition to the basic learning plans, you receive:
Stage 1 Lesson Stories
Stage 2 Lesson Stories
Letter Sound Mp3 Clips
List of Common Sight Words
Children’s Favorite Nursery Rhymes
One on One Counseling for 12 weeks
The Children Learning Reading program focuses on learning individual sounds one at a time rather than sight words, like some other programs designed for young children. The step by step approach keeps it from being overwhelming and also makes sure they have one sound down before moving on to the next one.
There is a lot of initial reading to do before starting on the program. I was told I needed to read the introduction before starting the program with my child. The introduction was over 100 pages long and it took me a couple days of 20 minute sessions to get through it. It would be really nice if the intro could be condensed a little more. I know there was a lot of good info in there, but unless I’m reading a novel, I kind of start to zone after 15 minutes or so.
I have been working on it with my 3 year old for a couple of weeks. She got through the first lessons pretty well. I think I will start with my 17 month old soon! One thing I think would be nice is if they included large versions of the letters the child is supposed to be tracing in each lesson. I suppose big letters are easy enough to find at the dollar store or online, but it would be nice if it were included.
Other than those things, I think the program is simple yet comprehensive and a good choice for a parent willing to work with their child a few minutes a day. Education programs and DVD’s can be great, fun supplements for learning, but still no substitution for the one-on-one attention you give your child!
