Wellness Wednesday: Healthy Snacks from Healthy Surprise

 disclosure

box-starter-243Subscription boxes seem to be all the rage right now and they cover all kinds of tastes and products. Healthy Surprise is a subscription containing healthy snacks. And since I’m always trying to find better-for-you snacks for my family, this box seemed right up my alley.

This box is a little pricier than some others I’ve tried. I received the starter kit, which is approximately $4o with shipping. The “Healthy Box” will run you $76 and the “Large Box” is $100 with free shipping. From what I can tell, the products are the same, there are just more of them in the larger boxes. Here is what was in my box.

healthy snacks

Home Free Gluten Free Double Chocolate Chip Cookies–These were by far my favorite product in the box. These gluten-free chocolate cookies were so good!

Gogo Squeeze Apple Mango–This is one of those handy little squeeze pouches my kids love. Too bad there weren’t 2! I had to find another pouch in the cabinet so they could both have one.

Dang Toasted Coconut Chips–I was a little wary of these because I haven’t always had good experiences with coconut products. But these were actually quite good. They do have a little sugar in then, but it gives them a nice taste. You have to be somewhat tolerant of coconut to like it though.

California Snax Parma Kale–These Kale snacks contain only kale, almonds, sunflower seeds, buckwheat, onion, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar and sea salt. They were ok, but the cheese flavor was a little strong.

Hail Merry Raw Pecans (orange rosemary)–I’m not a huge pecan fan (I prefer almonds) and orange isn’t a flavor I would pick if were to eat pecans. My son, who seems to love all things healthy, really liked them though.

Sea Snax Roasted Seaweed–I’m sorry. I just could not eat this. I did taste it hoping I would like the salty crunch, but since it is seaweed, it has a hint of fish in it and I cannot stand the taste of seafood of any kind.

Gopals Nori Wrapped Energy Sticks–I actually have not brought myself to open these yet. After my experience with the Sea Snax, I’m done with seaweed for now.

Matt’s Munchies Choco-Banana–If you like chocolate and bananas together, you’ll probably like this bar. N is the banana lover around here, so this is just for him!

That’s It Fruit Bar–This bar contains only apple and mango. Seriously. That’s all At least that’s what the package said. It was a kind of chewy fruit bar. Another kid-friendly snack and no extra stuff.

The Daily Crave Veggie Chips–These were called “veggie chips” which made me think they would be something besides potato chips. But the first ingredients were “potato flour” and “potato starch.” They also contained spinach and beetroot powder. When I think of a “veggie chip” I think of sliced veggies cooked like chips. Nevertheless, they did have a good flavor and no msg, so I can’t really complain.

Snapz Grilled Zucchini Crunch–Do you like zucchini? How about dehydrated zucchini? Because that’s really what this is. I like zucchini ok but I usually have to have it mixed with something. I wouldn’t just snack on these. But they’d be easy to re-hydrate and mix into something like spaghetti sauce or sauted mushrooms.

The products offered in the Healthy Surprise box are always vegan, Gluten-free, soy-free and natural (and usually organic). I love that the company also gives its reasons for the exclusions, which you can read more about on the Healthy Surprise website. And if you follow them on facebook and twitter, they frequently offer promotions there.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free for evaluation purposes. However, all opinions expressed are still 100% my own.
