Make it Monday: Almond Butter

How to Make Almond Butter and Peanut Butter

homemade almond butter

I have been wanting to try making my own nut butters for sometime now. It was one of the things I’ve really been looking forward to doing with my food processor.

I decided to start with the almond butter, since I’ve gotten pretty low and wanted to try some things.

I used about 3 cups of almonds and ended up with about 2 cups of almond butter. The whole process took about 15 minutes, but I used roasted almonds. I understand raw almond butter takes a little longer because the food processor has to work harder to extract the oils.

The first 30 seconds or so the almonds are very loud. So you might want to start by pulsing until the whole almonds are broken into smaller pieces. After this you can leave it running.

First the almonds will get ground into a coarse powder/flour. After 5-10

After 5-7 minutes it will gather into a dough-like ball. Just let it keep running. At around 15 minutes, it will finally start to get creamy. I know, it seems like it will never happen!

Then put it in a jar for storage and use for baking, snaking, or whatever you like to use almond butter for.

I also made peanut butter and it did not take quite as long. It was done within 10 minutes. You could add a little honey, salt or cocoa if you like, but I didn’t add any to mine and it tasted fine to me!

Have you ever made your own nut butters?
