Make it Monday: Lip Balm Kit from Kismet Box

*I received a Kismet Box to try out and review. All opinions are honest and my own.*

I was fortunate enough to get to try one of the very first subscription boxes from Kismet Box, a band new company that gives you everything you need to make your own beauty products. This month’s kit was DIY watermelon lip balm!

My kit came with everything I need to make my own lip balm: lip balm base, castor oil, tubes for the lip balm, flavor, coral mica (for color) and tools like a mini whisk, droppers and tiny scoop.

First thing to do was melt 1/3 of the lip balm base in a double boiler (or in my case, a glass bowl placed on top of a metal pot). Add a tsp of castor oil and flavoring and whisk together.

Then add the coral mica for coloring and continue to whisk. Leaving the pot on low, fill the dropper halfway with the mixture.

Then empty it into into the lip balm tube. Continue filling the tube in small batches until it is full. Kismet boxes provided 2 types of lip balm tubes. The small round container was something I already had. It was easier to pour the last little bit in the bowl into that rather than one of the tubes. 1/3 of the lip balm base made 3 tubes/containers of lip balm.

Allow the mixture to cool, and voila! Lip balm. It would also make a really cool little gift.

If you would like to sign up for a Kismet Box, you can check out their website. You can also find them on facebook, where they give even more great ideas for homemade beauty products!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free for evaluation purposes. However, all opinions expressed are still 100% my own. How interesting a Lip Gloss making kit, I have never heard of this it did not appear to hard to do, I did not know castor oil was in lip gloss, ugh

    • I didn’t castor oil was in lip gloss either. And I believe there are recipes that don’t call for it. perhaps you could use olive or coconut oil instead. That is just what was included in this kit.

  3. I love the idea of being able to make your own!

That’s so neat! I’ve never heard of Kismet before, but sounds like an interesting concept.

  5. I’ve always wanted to try making my own lip balm. I have no idea why I haven’t yet. Looks like you had fun!
