So, I’ve been trying to make “green” changes here and there. I’m not full-throttle, like some people, but you know, baby steps. And I noticed that sometimes, going “green” helps save money, in addition to reducing the chemicals you are putting in your house and your body every day. So there’s really no reason not to do it, right?
Well, one of the latest products I was able to try out was Woolzies Dryer Balls. This is a set of 6 handmade wool balls (about the size of a baseball) and you put them, along with your laundry, in the dryer. It acts as a natural, no chemical fabric softener. In addition, it cuts back on drying time about 25%, which saves energy.
Now my dryer has a tendency to leave clothes ever-so-slightly damp after running it on the highest setting. I don’t know if it’s just old, or some lint build-up escaping the filter, or what, but there you have it. With my Woolzies the clothes actually come out dry. Imagine that!
While their primary purpose is to act as a fabric softener, the main thing I was excited about was the faster drying! A box of Woolzies runs about $35, but is guaranteed for 1,000 loads. If you do a load a day, one box will last you about 2 1/2 years! That’s a lot of fabric softener to not buy!
Woolzies are also safe for those with wool allergies, because the wool does not touch the skin (except maybe the person doing the laundry) and it doesn’t shed onto the clothes.
