My Lasagna Recipe

homemade lasagna

Lasagna is one of our absolute favorite foods around here. I mean, who doesn’t love  lasagna, right? And my hubby and dad agree I make a mean lasagna. And I finally got it to stay in one piece instead of oozing all over the plate into a messy, yet delicious pile.

I know there are lots of recipes floating around out there, but I’m going to tell you mine anyway. Just because I can. And I know you want to know, cause you know how awesome my recipes are. 😉

Ingredients (for a 9×9 pan):

1 lb cooked ground beef

16 oz container of ricotta cheese

24 oz jar spaghetti sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella

1/2 cup shredded parmesan or Italian cheese mix

box of lasagna noodles (I used oven-ready)

Spread 1/2 cup spaghetti sauce over bottom of 9×9 baking dish and reserve another 1/2 cup. After browning the meat, mix in the rest of the sauce (about 2 cups) and ricotta. You can also layer the ricotta separately, but this time I mixed it in with the meat.

Place a layer of oven ready (or regular prepared) lasagna noodles in the pan over the sauce, then spread half of the meat/sauce/ricotta mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle 1/2 cup parmesan on top.

Repeat with another layer of noodles, rest of meat mixture and 1/2 cup parmesan. Another layer of noodles covered by the last cup of spaghetti sauce. Put 2-3 TBSP water in the sauce jar and swish it around a bit to get most of the sauce that didn’t come out before and drizzle over your top saucy layer. Try to make sure all the noodles are completely covered, especially if using oven-ready noodles.

Sprinkle the mozzarella on  the very top layer, cover with foil and bake about 25 minutes at 35o degrees. Remove the foil and continue cooking 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese starts browning. Allow the pan to sit and cool 5-10 minutes before cutting. This is a good time to make your garlic bread and/or salad and set the table.

Cut it up and serve!
